Outstanding Students New Zealand Eco & Cultural Study Tour 2019

  24 P.5 students departed for New Zealand for a 10-day study trip from 14/2-23/2. The study trip was fantastic, fruitful and unforgettable! We went on many excursions, like visiting Maori Cultural Centre, Sheep Farm and Hobbiton Movie Set … etc. In addition, we had a valuable chance to study in a local primary school and stay with host families. However, the utmost important of all was learning how to protect our environment by carrying out different conservation activities.


Kiwi Fruit Orchard & McLarens Falls Park

I was most impressed by visiting KiwiFruit Orchard. We learned how Kiwifruit was grown with the help of scientific methods.
We tried to find if the river was dirty or not in McLarens Falls Park, so we caught the bugs in the river. We were so glad to find a lot of bugs in the water. It proves that the water provides enough oxygen to the bugs! 5C Angie Kan

Luge Ride

Hobbiton Movie Set

I took many beautiful pictures there. I noticed that some of the houses’ doors are bigger than the others. The tour host said that’s because they need to make the actors looks smaller, just like ‘Hobbits’. How interesting! 5E Tin Yee Ning Elaine

Mount Maunganui

We went hiking in Mt. Maunganui. The mountain was very steep. But after we got there, the scenery was so beautiful that I forgot all about the tiredness. 5D Isaac Lee Chun Yin

Maori Cultural Centre

We learnt about Maori culture and their language. Maori people dance, do arts & craft and they have sign language. We learned Maori dance, the war dance! It was fun! 5C Chu To Isaac

School Visit - Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary School

We learnt many things, such as how to protect your iPad and learnt about NZ culture. The students and teachers were friendly! 5D Tommy Tong Kiu Him

Homestay

I was lucky to stay in a family with 2 children, Isla and Cooper who loves to go to school with his ‘bare foot’! I love their dog, Charlie too. They were so nice to me. I had a lovely time. 5A Lau Chun Hei Jason

Back from New Zealand Study Tour
My daughter Jasmine Chau from Class 5A had the opportunity to join the special 10- day New Zealand Study Tour (partly sponsored by Hongkong Airlines) with her 23 other schoolmates right after the CNY break. What a lifetime experience for all of them!   Thanks to Principal Mak, Mr Leung, Miss Cheng and the volunteer parents, all of students had a wonderful time learning, playing, sight-seeing and mingling with their fellow schoolmates/local students and came back home safe and sound:)
They went at the perfect time — superb sunny weather (the sunscreen and sunglasses she brought weren't used at all however...) with chill mornings and nights. During· the first 6 days, they stayed at 2 different camp sites as they needed to travel around the North Island. Jasmine absolutely loved those sites as she has never seen so many stars in the sky before! In the daytime, they travelled by coach bus to see Te Puia volcanic scenery, Maori people cultural activities, Hobbiton Movie set, kiwifruit gardens, Manuka Honey Center, beaches and Rotorua farm, where the students could feed different kinds of animals in open-air. Jasmine loved feeding the llamas as she seldom saw these animals.   On day 6, they moved to live with their respective host families, which were mostly teachers from the Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary School, where our kids attended for the last 3 days of their trip. Jasmine was lucky to be paired with Ashley to stay at Miss Crawford's home together with her two kids, Troy and Pietra, as their home has a nice swimming pool, swing and trampoline in their backyard! All those fun things which Jasmine likes!   The lesson Jasmine enjoyed the most at the Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary School was no doubt the "biking lesson". Not only they learned the biking rules in classroom, but also got to put into action: riding real bikes around! To them, biking was a must­ learned subject because the kids there needed to ride bikes to school.
Often say, happy times are the shortest times. Even 4 weeks after they came back, Jasmine still misses Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary school. Fortunately, the volunteer parents and teachers took so many beautiful photos for us to enjoy. A common saying goes: "Thousand miles of travelling is way better than reading thousand books". Hope these students will never forget every single minute which they spent there.
